Scrip Fundraising

We’re pleased to share some exciting news about a new fundraising program for our organization.  It’s called “scrip”, and it’s the fundraising program that works while you shop.  We just became aware of this after a parishioner shared the information with us and thought we would roll it out in time for Christmas.  For a full list of participating stores, click on the order form below.

Scrip is simply a word that means “substitute money” – in other words, scrip is gift certificates from national and local retailers.  They’re the same gift certificates that you buy at the store.  Many popular retailers participate in our scrip program including Target, Starbucks, Macy’s JCPenney, The Gap, Shell, Pizza Hut, Red Lobster and hundreds more.

You’re probably asking yourself how these stores help us raise money.  It’s simple -- scrip participating retailers agree to sell gift certificates to our organization at a discount.  Member families like yours buy the certificates for full face value, they redeem them for full face value, and our parish keeps the difference as revenue.

The beauty of scrip is that you put your regular household shopping dollars to work. You earn money for our parish without spending a single additional penny.  Just spend your regular shopping dollars with scrip at the stores that participate in the scrip program!  And scrip can be used for just about any household purchase including food, clothing, entertainment, gasoline and even dining out.

Cards are ordered at the church or online.  Someone will be at all the services this Sunday to help with Christmas orders.  Cards must be paid for when the order is placed.  Payment options include a paper check or if ordering online, an electronic payment from your checking or savings account.  For those who might be able to use gift cards for some of their holiday gift giving, our first order will be placed December 14, and then on the 15th of every month thereafter.  This is a perfect program for your regular shopping.  Some cards are reloadable instantly and others can be downloaded on the web without waiting.

Program Basics
The Saint Peter’s Scrip program is a great way to help the church financially through your regular shopping.  Scrip cards are also good for gifts or for giving to charities, like giving WUMCO a gift card for groceries.  Here are the basics that you will need to know if you want to participate.

ORDERING CARDS
You can order cards at the church with a paper order form, available below.  You simply mark the cards and quantities you want and write the parish a check for that amount.  We place an order once a month and you’ll get the cards in a couple days.

You can also order online at www.shopwithscrip.com.  From the homepage, there is a link on the left hand side in a green box that says ‘create an account’.  Simply follow the prompts to fill in your information.  It will ask you for an enrollment code for our parish, and our code is: D162216832371.  After you’re set up you can shop for cards by name, category, specials, etc.  When it comes time to place your order, you can place the order, pay for it by check next time you are at St. Peter’s, or you can set it up so that Scrip can debit your bank account directly.  The order will be sent in to Scrip by the parish the next time we place an order (unless you’re reloading a card or buying an e-card, both of which are instantly available to you if you use the electronic debit method.  See below for more information about this.)

The parish will order cards once a month provided there are enough orders to warrant the shipping cost, which while not high, must be offset by the rebates we receive from the cards.  Our first order will be placed December 14, with monthly orders on the 15th or as needed thereafter.

INSTANT CARDS AND RE-LOADABLES
For those with online access there are a number of cards that are downloadable instantly and others that are re-loadable.   For those with internet accounts, there are e-cards which are downloadable at the time of order with electronic payment.  Other cards are re-loadable either by filling out an order form and paying the church via check, or again, by electronic payment online.  Both of these options are good as they don’t require shipping and with online purchasing can be ordered and received anytime without waiting for the parish to place an order.

Detailed Information about the program and ordering can be found be reading the Shop With Scrip User Guide.
