Online Bible Study

Want to study the Bible, but can’t get to Bible Study?  We found a great study that is available to read or listen to via podcast right from your internet device.

Seattle Pacific University offers a weekly study that is currently covering Matthew.  This study is free (you just have to sign up) and is sent to you as either an email or a podcast (a podcast is a downloadable audio file, in this case through iTunes).  Each weekly session covers a few chapters of Matthew and is accessible for people with all levels of Bible reading experience.  We hope this study will be of interest to some in the parish.  If there is a group who wants to participate in an electronic chat option that would allow participants to discuss the weekly study, we can help set that up – just let us know.  The weekly reading can be completed in about 30 minutes, but you may find that you want to take more time to consider the presentation.  If you are interested, you may sign up at: http://blog.spu.edu/lectio.

Please let either Father Tom or Joel Tjornehoj know if you subscribe so we can provide support for your studies.  This is a great opportunity to gain access to commentaries by leading Biblical scholars and learn more about the Gospel of Matthew during this lectionary year of Matthew.

We have various opportunities for adult formation.  Most Sundays we have two options for adults at the 10 am hour.  When there are two, one is always bible-base, while the other might include parenting discussion or other topical groups.

Particularly in the seasons of Advent and Lent, but also at other times, there are weeknight classes that center around reading a book or a topical study.

There is a weekly bible study in the library at 9am each Wednesday.

We also have a monthly movie discussion on a Saturday night called St. Peter's Cinema, which involves sharing a pot-luck meal, watching a film and then discussing its importance and relevance.  It's great fun and open to everyone.  Usually movies are not chosen to be family friendly, so these are not often family events.
