What to expect in our worship

Each of our services has a unique tenor and feel. Below, we'll try to help you understand what each service is like so that you can find the one that best suits your worship likes and needs.  All of our services are come as you are, and we welcome children at all services.  For parents with young children who prefer it, we have nursery care in our bright and beautiful nursery and professional care providers for children aged 5 and under.

8:00 am Holy Eucharist, Rite I

This is our most 'traditional' service, utilizing Rite I from the Book of Common Prayer.  Rite I is a version of the Elizabethan English service found in earlier editions of the Prayer Book.  If you're not familiar with this style of worship, you might be surprised to hear 'thee," "thy," "thou," and similar phrasing.  This intimate service includes two hymns in the service apart from the last Sunday of each month when there is no music at this service.  This service meets in the main sanctuary, accessible from the Fisher Avenue doors or through the 'front door' that leads into the foyer.

9:15 am Family Friendly Eucharist, Rite II+

This service, new in the fall of 2010, is our most contemporary regular service.  It is designed with families in mind.  Lasting no longer than 45 minutes, this service meets in the parish hall.  Locating this service in a less formal space allows us to provide 'soft space' for young children; a carpeted area with cushions and soft toys.  Music is led with a piano, and is more contemporary than most music at St. Peter's.  In addition to full-text bulletins, the entire liturgy is projected on a screen as well, allowing some to worship 'hands free.'  This service explores liturgical rites from around the Anglican Communion in addition to those approved by the Liturgy Commission of the Episcopal Church.

11:00 am Holy Eucharist, Rite II

Our third Sunday morning service is our largest, and it represents the most familiar form of worship in the Episcopal Church.  Following the Rite II service from the Prayer Book, music is led by organ and piano, along with our adult choir.  Meeting in the main sanctuary, this service runs about an hour from start to finish.  Like all of our services children are welcome, and this service has a fair number of families attending it as well.

6:00 pm (2nd Sunday of the month only) CRE8

The CRE8 service is a contemporary eucharistic service that is designed, planned and offered by the youth of the parish.  From the liturgy to the message to the music, our teens provide a wonderful and fresh perspective on worship while honoring the structure and theology of  Anglican worship.  This service is popular across ages, from 2 to 82!
